L - ARGININE 101

L-Arginine can be beneficial for a wide variety of athletes, from cyclists to bodybuilders, this amino acid can give you a performance edge. What’s an amino acid you ask? Amino acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins. Amino acids and proteins are the building blocks of life. When proteins are digested, amino acids are what is left. The body uses amino acids to make proteins to help the body break down food, grow and repair body tissue and for many other body functions. So what does the body require L-Arginine for? Well, L-Arginine is necessary for the production of nitric oxide, a signalling molecule that’s needed for a variety of bodily processes and functions, including blood flow, energy production and cellular communication.

L-arginine is beneficial for athletes for two reasons, its roles in protein synthesis and because it is a precursor to nitric oxide, which causes blood vessels to widen as a result of the relaxation of the blood vessel muscular walls.

L- Arginine’s role in increasing nitric oxide in the body is useful for virtually all athletes. However, it can be particularly beneficial for endurance athletes as improved blood flow and oxygen delivery to working muscles can lead to increased endurance.

L-Arginine is also an important supplement for those aiming to build muscle. L- Arginine helps with muscle growth because its presence is needed for the synthesis of most proteins. L-arginine sends a signal to muscle cells, which encourages the release of growth hormone.

Sounds promising right, but how much should you take, and when? Extreme Pre Workout contains 2g of L – Arginine which is considered a good daily dose and you guessed it, it should be consumed pre workout.
